HelioPACTM Technology

...considered to be one of only a handful of truly basic patents of the 20th century.

Inventor Carl Nicodemus discovered a phenomenon that allowed him to combine low pressure liquid and vapor, and discharge a high pressure hot liquid at pressures never before attainable through a device with no moving parts.  He continued to work on this discovery and the "Pressure Amplifier and Condenser (PAC or HelioPACTM)" was born.  Because the HelioPACTM can operate on subatmospheric vapor, it can also evaporate and distill as well as pump.  Thus, it has potential applications in refrigeration, water desalination, power generation, and others.

Helios Research Corp. was founded to further research and develop PAC technology.  The Company was granted its basic patent, which is considered by many in the engineering profession to be one of only a handful of truly basic patents of the 20th century.  The HelioPAC was introduced to the marketplace as an advanced high pressure hot water pump and, since then, has become widely used in all manner of industry for all types of cleaning applications.  HelioPAC technology is currently marketed through HelioJET Cleaning Technologies and its sister company Helios Energy Technologies (www.heliosenergy.com).

Because the energy in the incoming vapor is used to either heat or pressurize the incoming liquid, the HelioPAC is nearly 100% efficient.  Although the device resembles the old jet eductor (jet pump), its operating principle bears little resemblance, and its performance characteristics far exceed that of its ancestor.

The HelioPAC utilizes existing steam and cold water supplies.  As steam enters the HelioPAC, it is expanded to supersonic velocity and immediately condenses into a cold water stream.  The steam’s heat and momentum are  then transferred to the water.  The result is instantaneous pressurized hot water at more than 99% efficiency.  For example: When using 125 psi steam pressure, and a cold water supply of 60 psi, the HelioPAC can deliver hot water at over 300 psi and 185°F. The HelioPAC does all this with no moving parts, making it the most efficient, low maintenance cleaning system of its kind.  Another unique advantage of the HelioPAC is that during operation, it creates its own internal vacuum. This allows He-ChemTM specially formulated chemical cleaners to be siphoned automatically.  As the He-Chem Cleaner enters the HelioPAC, it encounters extreme heat and turbulence which thoroughly mixes and disperses it into the pressurized hot water.  This action creates a super effective cleaning solution.
